1-12-19 Crappie Fishing

by Kevin Johns on 01/12/19

Today we had an excellent fishing day on the Butler Chain of Lakes. The targeted species was Crappie. My clients were caught in excess of 65 Crappie and 8 Largemouth Bass. All the fish were caught on live minnows. The preferred depth  range for today was from 28 to 30 feet. Many of the fish that were kept still had not spawned.

We had another successful day Crappie fishing. My client caught 40 Crappie and 10 Largemouth Bass. With the water temperatures in the mid 60's the fish are congregated in deeper water. The depth range the fish were caught in today was from 30 to 35 feet. The most productive bait was live minnows but a few fish were caught on a 1/8 oz jig during first light conditions.

12-10-18 Crappie Fishing

by Kevin Johns on 12/10/18

Today 12-10-18 was a successful Crappie trip. Today we caught in excess of 40 Crappie. The largest Crappie of the day was 15 1/2 inches in length. Many of the Crappie exceeded 13 inches in length. The north west winds were sustained at 15 to 20 mph which made it challenging to maintain the boat position while vertical fishing for Crappie. The fish were concentrated in a depth range of 22 to 24 feet in depth. A cold front was approaching and the skies remained cloudy and overcast  throughout the trip. The most productive bait of choice for today was live minnows.

12-09-18 Butler Chain of Lakes

by Kevin Johns on 12/10/18

On 12-9-18 I had two scheduled trips.

The first trip was a morning trip in which the targeted spices was Crappie/Specks. My clients caught 25 Crappie/Specks that ranged from 11 to 13 inches in length. Live minnows was the bait of choice. The fish were caught on a drop off where the water depth changed from 18 to 26 feet.

The second trip was in the afternoon in which we targeted Largemouth Bass. Although my clients were late to arrive we still had a productive trip. We caught 11 Bass in the 2 to 4 pound range in approximately 2 1/2 hours. The Bass were caught on wild shiners and soft plastic worms. The most productive depth was in the 8 to 10 feet range. The most productive soft plastic was a Zoom Trick Worm in Red Bug color.
